FAQ | Installing a New Workstation

It is assumed that you have sufficient computer knowledge, or we recommend you have your IT Support people complete this installation for you.

Make sure that networking is installed on the new workstation and that you can access the server and any required printers. You should be able to see the server and the shared Arms directory via Network Neighbourhood.

If you have an original ARMS CD:

1) Insert the CD into the drive and install the ARMS software.
2) The default directory for the install will be C:\ARMS. It is recommended that the default directory is used.
3) Copy all of the .exe files and all of the .bpl files from the ARMS folder on the server to the ARMS folder on the workstation. This is done to ensure that you are running the same version of each program on both the workstation and the server.
4) Install an icon on the desktop to run ARMS. This should run the file armswin.exe from the C:\Arms folder.
5) The first time you start ARMS, the computer will prompt you for the Server Name, Program Directory and Data Directory. Enter the name of the file server into the first field and enter the word ARMS into the other two fields. This assumes that the ARMS data directory on the server has been shared as ARMS.
6) The install is now complete.

If you don't have an ARMS CD:

1) Create a new folder called C:\ARMS on the C: drive of the workstation.
2) Copy the contents of the ARMS folder from either the file server or another workstation into the new ARMS folder on the workstation.
3) Delete the file "datadir.txt" from the ARMS folder on the workstation.
4) Copy the following three files: w32mkde.exe, wbtrv32.dll and w32mkrc.dll from the server into the C:\ARMS folder on the workstation. These files will normally be located in the \windows\system folder on the server.
5) Install an icon on the desktop to run ARMS. This should run the file armswin.exe from the C:\ARMS folder.
6) The first time you start ARMS, the computer will prompt you for the Server Name, Program Directory and Data Directory. Enter the name of your server into the first field and enter the word ARMS into the other two fields. This assumes that the ARMS data directory on the server has been shared as ARMS.

The install is now complete.

Still Not Working?

If you're having trouble installing ARMS on a workstation, it is usually a local network issue.

Make sure the network cable is plugged in to your workstation, and that the folders mentioned above are shared, and the network is functioning correctly.

We recommend you have your IT Support check your network out.
